Based in Oxford, England, The Babylon Cowboys features Jenny May and Dave Tommo's unique songwriting and styles. They are currently booking venues as an acoustic act around Oxford and are writing and recording new songs to be released in the near future.
Jenny and Dave's other projects include The Tommos; hosting The Band Weblogs Podcast Show and the Trendy Bands Podcast; they have recorded with Greig Stewart and Fyfe Dangerfield from Guillemots on one of Jenny May's original songs, and appeared in Guillemots video for their hit song, "Trains to Brazil".
Originally from Texas, Jenny May spent most of her life growing up in New Hampshire and Vermont. Since she was seventeen Jenny performed with bands in venues throughout New England, mainly playing covers by some of her influences such as Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billie Holiday and The Allman Brothers and then eventually adding original material to the sets.
Singing with her band Sensible Shoes in America, Jenny May shared the stage with such acts as Toots and the Maytals, Lonnie Mack, The J. Geils Band, NRBQ, 10,000 Maniacs and Rosanne Cash. They received radio-airplay, performed at festivals such as The Coors Light Balloon Festival in Syracuse, NY and The Ben and Jerry's Festival in Vermont, and one of their songs was featured in the movie Philadelphia starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks.
In 2000, Jenny May produced and wrote songs for her studio album 'The May Sessions', which was recorded with former band mates and Jon Fishman from Phish on drums.
Jenny then took a short break from music and in 2003 travelled to England, where she met Dave Tommo.
Growing up in Portsmouth, England, Dave Tommo was influenced at a young age to pick up the guitar and write songs upon hearing the music of The Clash and the lyrical genius of Crass and Bob Marley. Dave has played the British music circuit as singer, bass player and contributing songwriter for punk band 4 Minute Warning; Brighton based reggae band The Jam Jah Tree and more recently, was the founder of Oxford ska band The Drug Squad, who self released a debut album and played venues throughout England.
Since meeting Jenny, Dave's songwriting has been taken to a new level, challenging him to even more rewarding experiences by writing songs together. With their diverse background and musical influences, they have now come together to produce a sound all their own.
